DIY Plate Wall Display: Turning Family Treasures into Art

I have several vintage plates I’ve acquired over the years from family, and I wanted to display them instead of storing them in the cabinet. So I decided on a DIY plate wall display, turning my china platters, saucers, salad and dinner plates into art!

I didn’t want to break one while hanging, so I came up with a “break free” method of hanging the plates. I’ve laid out the method in these simple steps:

STEP ONE:

Lay out your plates on the floor in the pattern you want on the wall.

STEP TWO:

STEP TWO: Get paper (I used wrapping paper because it is a nice size) and trace around each plate and cut out a paper version of each plate. Place the paper over the plates. Take a picture with your cell phone for reference.

STEP THREE:

With tape, stick the paper models on the wall (using your photo you took on your cell phone for reference) in the place you want to hang your plates, using the same pattern you created on the floor.

STEP FOUR:

Using plate hanging hardware you can buy at wal-mart, hammer the nail directly over the paper on the wall. Remove paper.

STEP FIVE:

Hang your plate. Repeat.

This DIY plate wall display is a wonderful way to showcase family treasures that truly is unique and special art. *tip: you can even change out plates for the holidays or replace with a small painting or another plate if you are entertaining and want to use one hanging on the wall.
