DIY Solar Water Fountain Under $50

I wanted a water feature in our front garden, but did not want to deal with electrical chords. I decided to make my own using a solar powered fountain pump! It turned out great and was so easy to make.

Items I used were two pots I found at Lowe’s. I got matching pots one larger than the other. I got a smaller pot to put inside the larger one and a plastic tray. I also got a bag of river pebbles.

How I Made My Fountain

It only takes a few simple items about about 20 minutes to make this fountain! Here are the items I used:

  • Two pots (one larger than the other)
  • A pot or bucket to fit in the larger pot
  • A bag of pebbles or potting soil
  • Heavy rocks or bricks
  • Solar powered pump
  • A sunny and level spot
Step one, find a sunny and level spot and place the larger pot on the level surface. Then flip the other pot (not the matching one) inside the pot.
Fill it with rocks and bricks to weigh it down.
Place plastic tray on top.
Put the smaller pot on top of the trey and other pot and place river pebbles all around. You can also fill the bottom pot with dirt and plant flowers. If you can’t find a tray just fill the entire pot with pebbles. I used the trey because I did not have enough pebbles.
I bought this solar water pump on Amazon and it is so neat! You literally just drop it in the water and it starts to work (as long as it is sunny out). I love it!
Our beautiful DIY fountain adds a zen full touch to our front garden.

I love my fountain! And even better the entire thing cost only $50 to make! But the very best part is, as a parent to an almost 3 year old, I don’t have to worry about dangerous wires and chords in the yard.

Thanks for following my blog and make sure to check out my other reno projects at our farmhouse!
