My Muses Shoe Collection and How I Caught Them at the Parade

The Muses Shoe is a Mardi Gras treasure must have for locals and tourists alike. This hand-decorated coveted throw is created by Members of the Krewe of Muses…the first ever all-female krewe whose parade rolls the Thursday night before Mardi Gras. Members transform old shoes into a sparkly and fabulous Mardi Gras keepsakes that thousands of people try to get their hands on during the annual Muses parade. I’ve managed to amass quite the glittery collection over the years and I truly love them all!

A very talented Muses member made this horse-theme shoe just for me in 2011…I felt so special and it’s my favorite shoe!
The shoes are all so fun and glittery! This one is from 2016.

I actually made this shoe live on the morning show when I was the morning feature reporter for Good Morning New Orleans. I had tons of help from the founders for the organization who joined me live that morning.
My Tiffany- themed shoe is fabulous!
Peace! Love the colors of this shoe.

Tips on How to Catch A Muses Shoe (or any throw) During Carnival

As I mentioned, the Krewe of Muses parade rolls the Thursday night before Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras). With only a few hundred shoes given out at the parade each year and thousands of people wanting one…how did I manage to get all these shoes?

My Muses shoe collection! It’s magical!

Here are some tips that worked for me (you can apply these tips to any of the parades):

  • Know someone riding in the parade and coordinatie with them where you will be on the parade route. This is how I got most of my shoes.
  • Make a sign! If you make a fun sign it will catch the riders’ eyes and your chances of getting a shoe increases. I made a sign that said “shoe me!” one year, and it worked!
  • Make eye contact with someone on a float and beg for one. That worked for me too. Haha
  • Finally…just plain luck! Sometimes that is all it takes!

Whether you leave with a shoe or not…if you ever have chance to go to the Muses parade (or any parade during Carnival) it is going to be a truly fun and magical experience like no other!

My Muses shoes make great MardiGras decorations year after year. They are true Mardi Gras treasures.
